2011

Global Korean Studies major was established

 

2012

Established Sogang Global Korean Studies Initiative

GKS admitted first-year students for the first time. 

 

2013

Started the management of Sogang Korean Studies Summer School

Signed KF-Sogang Korean Studies VOD program (Catholic University of Chile, Ateneo de Manila Univerisity, Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, Ocean University of China, and University of Malaya)

 

2014

The second “Sogang Korean Studies Summer School” took place

Signed a student exchange program with the SOAS London (School of Oriental and African Studies)

 

2015

Signed a joint major program to study Japanese Studies and Chinese Studies in English with the Sophia University of Japan and the City University of Hong Kong, respectively.

The first Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2016

The department produced its first graduates with bachelor's degrees. 

GKS began to offer an MA in Global Korean Studies

The second Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2017

The 3rd Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2018

The 4th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2019

The 5th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

Undergraduate course department name changed '국제한국학' to '글로벌한국학' in Korean. 

GKS became part of the College of Media, Arts and Science

 

2020

The 6th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2021

The 7th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

 

2022

The 8th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

GKS began to offer PhD and MA-PhD joint degrees in Global Korean Studies

 

2023

The 9th Global Korean Studies Forum (GKSF) was held

GKS became the Division of Global Korean Studies as part of the newly established Loyola International College 

The Division of GKS consists of two majors at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Global Korean Studies and Korean Language Education (overseas students only for BA in Korean Language Education)
