프로필

장대업 교수는 2015년부터 국제한국학과에서 한국의 개발과 정치경제를 가르치고 있다. 국제한국학과에 자리잡기 전에는 영국 런던대학교의 아시아 아프리카 대학 (SOAS)의 개발학과에서 부교수로 재직하며 동아시아 발전과 개발, 노동, 이주, 국가이론, 정치경제학을 가르쳤다. 그는 서강대학교 독어독문학과 졸업 후 영국 워릭대학교에서 사회학 석사와 박사를 수여 받았으며 그 후 홍콩에서 비정부기구 Asia Monitor Resource Centre의 연구주임, 홍콩대학의 아시아센터에서 박사 후 연구원으로 제직하였고 홍콩 성시대학에서 강의하였다. 개발, 이주, 노동, 국가에 관련된 저서와 논문들은 Journal of Contemporary Asia 등에 실려 있으며 대표작으로 Capitalist Development in Korea: Labour, Capital and the Myth of Development State (2009, London: Routledge) 이 있다. 현재는 한국의 자본주의적 발전이 아시아 극빈국의 사회 발전에 미치는 영향을 이주, 투자, 원조의 세가지 각도에서 고찰하는 연구를 진행하고 있다.
